Nashville – You’re The Only Ten I See
After a late 1st night, we were a little slow moving. Those whiskey drinks probably didn’t help the matter. As Laura put it the night before “When in Nashville, do as the people of Nashville do.”
Barely being able to finish the blog post about our trip into Nashville, Laura was dragging me out the door. It was already past 11 and we only had a small time frame to find a famous food truck. A grilled cheese food truck. Is this becoming a cheese centered roadtrip? Not complaining.
The Grilled Cheeserie
The food truck was featured on diners, drive-ins, and dives. Another shout out to Laura’s sister Holly for this gem. It was a sign from the gods when we realized it was 3 blocks from our hotel! We lucked out.(The truck switches locations every day all around greater Nashville area). To our surprise, it was joined by about 15 other trucks. Food truck lane!
Of course the line at the grilled cheese truck was the longest but we stood in the 95 degree heat and treated ourselves to a pile of cheese between bread.
Dave’s choice: Rosemary garlic with Swiss/Gruyere. Extra cheese and avocado please.
Laura’s melt: Sourdough with cheddar. Bacon and bleu cheese aioli please.
Laura’s review: Amazing! oh my god, Amazing. Thickest bacon ever, like as thick as my face.
Dave’s review: give me morrrre.
Country Music Hall of Fame
After stuffing our faces, it was time to walk it off. We walked around for a couple hours, admiring what these music stars have accomplished. It was neat seeing how country music has transformed through several eras.

Jackalope Brewery
What the heck is a jackalope? Is it a real animal? It’s a funny name for a brewery. Off the beaten path a little, we made the trek to get some delicious beer… and cheese. That large $15 cheese plate was no match for us. We took it down before the group of 4 men at a nearby table finished theirs. The leghorn (India pale ale) and rhompah (red ale) were our favorites and drink of choice. Holla Gayle Jean Rodeo Queen for an excellent choice of spot.
Oh, in case you were wondering, the Jackalope is fictional.
Nightlife
After a heavy downpour (really the first weather issue), we ventured out for round 2. We swung through Printer’s Alley (literally an Alley) to check it out. A lot of karaoke happening here – we’re not sure if it was the rain but the crowd was light and a little strange here.
Our first stop was Wild Horse Saloon, a recommendation from my friend Emily that lived in Nashville when going to school. What a monstrous venue! 3 levels of seating that overlooked a large stage and dance floor. Perfect for…wait for it…line dancing! It seemed like a slow night as not all of the venue was closed to being full. Maybe it was the Miley Cyrus concert around the corner. (P.S. we couldn’t get tickets to it – all sold out). Anyways,
We were mesmerized by others ability to line dance…and too embarrassed from lack of ability to do it. Now THAT would have been a good blog video. Thanks Em for the recommendation!
We finished off the night on Broadway at a bar called The Stage. We might have been part of the ‘older’ crowd in there. Regardless, we had a blast (even after Laura’s right arm and sleeve was covered in whiskey). Anyways, we got to rock out with Johnny T before we said goodnight and goodbye to Nashville. Johnny T is up and coming – check out his songs!
We had a blast here and I couldn’t be any happier to share this experience with Laura. It would not have been as much fun without her. We’ll be back!

So I’ve obviously been reading all of these posts and stalking the pics and videos, duh. Let me just say I am a big advocate of all things cheese and am incredibly jealous of the soft pretzel and beer cheese sauce, and that amazing bacon grilled cheese sandwich thing you had Laura. Nom nom. I may be taking a road trip myself just for those two things. One question though: how’s all that cheese treating your digestive system? Hopefully that whiskey and craft beer helps even things out a bit
It…it….it smells bad in the car. Competing with the manure in this never ending state of Kansas..
