Majestic Zion
After we completed Angel’s Landing, we still had enough energy to keep going on a 2nd hike. This one was to the Emerald Pools. Don’t let the name fool you – there were no emeralds. Also a lack of pools. At the time, we didn’t know this but wanted to go explore as much as possible.
We did get some more incredible views of the rock formations.
There was 3 ‘pools’ all together – upper, middle, lower. It was the dead of summer so there wasn’t a lot of water at each. The upper pool had the most water and by the time we got there, I was ready for a swim…or a quick wade to the waist. I also wanted a picture standing in the middle of this thing.
My pack was halfway off when Laura looks around and notices that not one of the 50 people sitting around it were swimming and didn’t even have there shoes off. After some convincing, I gave in…a picture in front would work just fine. (We would later see on the sign at the start of the hike said “No swimming in any pool”. ughh, Laura was right. 🙂 )
Before heading back to the our cabin, we passed the lower pool. This trail was dug into the rock wall and passed under a little water fall. In the spring, it must be a roaring waterfall and an awesome sight to see. After about 8 miles of hiking and climbing, we were tired and cruised through here. Annnnnd maybe we were a little anxious for the cold beers waiting for us at the cabin too.
Slight change of plans! Grab the beers and head to the cold river flowing through the park.
Yes people, there was swimming allowed here. It was a great way to wrap up an amazing hike. Zion is a special place to visit. We were fortunate to get a cozy cabin near the lodge and trailheads.
Did we mention Laura likes her coffee and drinking it on porches? Well, she managed to do just that and lock herself out one morning. I was showering and heard none of the frantic knocks. But she managed to have some fun with it. Priceless.
We both were sad to leave such an amazing place. Fortunately, it’s ‘only’ a 7 hour trip from Carlsbad. We’ll be back to explore.
